Policy Research Intern (Master's Level)

Overview

Neufin is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Policy Research Intern. This is a hands-on role where you will be directly involved in critical policy and strategic engagements for large corporate clients. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of aspects of our research, including conducting in-depth analysis of national and state-level power market regulations and assisting in the development of Energy Transition Roadmaps and policy papers. This is a chance to gain real-world experience, contribute to high-impact decarbonisation strategies, and directly influence the growth of a fast-paced, mission-driven startup.

🚀 What You'll Be Doing

You will be a core part of the Policy & Regulatory team, supporting the team on high-impact projects. Responsibilities will include:

  1. Regulatory Analysis: Conducting in-depth research on national and state-level power market regulations in India, specifically focusing on renewable energy procurement models (e.g., Open Access, Net-Metering, Group Captive).

  2. Policy Mapping & Research: Analyzing policy barriers and opportunities for C&I customers seeking 100% Renewable Energy (RE100), including assessing limitations like banking restrictions and cross-subsidy surcharges.

  3. Project Support: Assisting in the development of Energy Transition Roadmaps for large corporate clients by supporting the regulatory mapping and policy feasibility scans for shortlisted technology and procurement levers.

  4. Reporting and Writing: Contributing to the development of thought leadership reports, policy briefs, and policy papers by researching and documenting regulatory landscapes, compliance mechanisms and policy recommendations.

  5. Data & Policy Modeling: Assisting in collecting and structuring policy data to support analytical tools, such as the Site Prioritization Matrix and financial models, ensuring recommendations align with regulatory and financial realities.

  6. Stakeholder Insights: Researching policy perspectives from key stakeholders including DISCOMs, IPPs, EPCs, CERC, and various state-level regulatory bodies.


🤹 Skills & Qualities We’re Looking For

  1. Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree (e.g., Public Policy, Energy Economics, Business Administration, or a relevant field) from a reputed institution.

  2. Essential: A strong understanding of the Indian power sector structure, including the roles of GENCOS, TRANSCOS, DISCOMS, and Regulatory Commissions, and foundational knowledge of renewable energy policy in India.

  3. Familiarity with key regulatory concepts like Net-Metering, Gross Metering, and Open Access is highly desirable.

  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to synthesize complex policy and technical information into clear, actionable reports.

  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
